Indiana University Campus

It's a great pity that Indiana University's beautiful Bloomington campus is wasted on the students, who hurry to class fretting about assignments and papers. Casual visitors stroll along enjoying its delights, especially when fall brings color to the trees. Few campuses can equal the shady nooks behind Woodburn Hall, say, or burbling Jordan River alongside the imposing Memorial Union (don't forget the quiet lounges, the I.U. Bookstore or the Commons food court inside), or the stately architecture of Owen, Wylie and Maxwell halls near the old campus's Dunn Woods. The culturally minded can stop in at the strikingly modernist I.M. Pei-designed I.U. Art Museum (free); catch a symphony or an opera at the Musical Arts Center, home of I.U.'s world-renowned music program; or see a touring Broadway show at the Auditorium, perhaps stopping first for photos in front of famous Showalter Fountain just outside. Try not to get in the students' way; they're probably late for class.
