Midwest Living Review
If there was a top baker reality TV show, Adam Wiltfang would be a confectionary contender representing northwest Indiana. Owner of Valparaiso's Designer Desserts, Adam has been whipping up decadent cakes for six years, earning the official baker status at nearby Michigan City's Blue Chip Casino. He promotes his bakery on the shop's whimsical website as "no stranger to Chicagoland." Patrons plop down in poufy armchairs to indulge in cupcakes, pies, cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, muffins, brownies and mousses. You can get Adam's pink-o-licious hot chocolate (white chocolate colored with pink food coloring) poured year-round. The girly, swirly, pastel-color shop serves lunch (all sandwiches $5.49). Adam recently added the full-service candy counter. Choose from chocolate-covered nuts, truffles, new and exciting candies, and standby favorites you would find in Grandma's crystal candy dish. Adam's mom works the bubble-glass counter, where you'll find more than 15 flavors of cupcakes daily (each $3, a daily special is $2), but consistent customer favorites are the jumbo old-school chocolate cupcake and flamboyant coconut cream. They are all huge, dangerously yummy and built for sharing -- especially if you follow Adam's philosophy: "Live life one cupcake at a time."
