Brown County, Indiana, is an artistic hamlet of galleries and shops selling all manner of creative wares.

With acre after acre of scenic rolling hills, it's easy to see why artists find the natural beauty of Brown County, Indiana, so inspiring. Small-town charm and friendly locals are an added bonus. Nashville is the heart of this Indiana destination offering more than 350 shops, galleries and attractions. Brown County bills itself as an artist colony with a funky, eclectic vibe. While the area is busiest during the peak fall foliage season, it enjoys steady tourism all year long. In the summer, Harley Davidsons are a common sight; in the winter, crowds converge to take in magical holiday decorations. Nashville is like one giant arts and crafts fair, or perhaps a year-round upscale flea market. There are tons of art studios and dozens of quaint, locally owned shops that beg for browsing with handmade paintings, sculptures, furniture, pottery, jewelry, weavings, leather, woodwork, collectibles and home decor. Many stores start to look the same after awhile because of similar tone and inventory. A couple places stand out: Iris Garden Gallery showcases lovely paintings for sale and pretty cottages to rent. The exquisite glasswork at Dick Lawrence's Quintessence Gallery blew us away, and the historic Ferguson House makes a good all-around stop for souvenirs. Ferrer Gallery claims the top floor of the historic Village Green building with works for sale from 30 different area artists, and offers art classes. All in all, Brown County makes an interesting and charming stop, whether for a morning, an afternoon or a weekend, no matter what your level of interest in the arts.
