Midwest Living Review
It may be hard to go wrong on the banks of Indiana's beautiful Lake Monroe south of Bloomington, but Fourwinds Resort and Marina isn't going quite right just yet. An ongoing renovation is promised for completion by fall 2012, and it should be nice, judging by completed suites. Marble tile and granite counters, nice marina views, and a compact kitchenette with microwave, full-size refrigerator, two-burner stove top, blender and coffeemaker make for a comfortable king suite ($169, depending on the season).
The main dining room, Tradewinds Restaurant, isn't completed yet, but the Windjammer Bar and Grill has a decent menu, including Dockside Favorites like Five-Alarm Chicken ($9.95), Baja fish tacos ($11.99) and specialty pizzas like the chicken club ($16.99) and Three Little Pigs ($16.99). Attractive landscaping (when it's finished) and a nice indoor-outdoor pool make the resort family-friendly. There's also a modest putt-putt course and tennis and basketball courts. Boat rentals at the marina include pontoon boats ($199 to $369 for four hours), ski boats ($249 to $299 for four hours), or waverunners ($89 hourly, $249 for four hours). Just two minutes by car from the resort is the state-operated Fairfax Recreation Area, a beach on the lake with restroom facilities and lifeguards.
