A destination bed and breakfast, Woodstock's restored Royal Victorian Manor blends small-town quaint with high-caliber guest service and amenities.

The postcard-pretty town square of Woodstock starring in the Bill Murray comedy "Groundhog Day" shares the spotlight with the new Royal Victorian Manor Bed and Breakfast (a.k.a. the movie's Cherry Street Inn). In 2010, owner-innkeepers Karla and Everton Martin painstakingly restored and transformed the 1894 home into a gracious, adults-only guesthouse. The eclectic decor blends oversized furniture with original fireplaces and carved woodwork. Public spaces at the spotless inn (leave your shoes at the door) include a sizable parlor, downstairs craft area and rec room with flat-screen TV. The gourmet breakfast of fresh fruit, fluffy pancakes (we requested pumpkin spice from Karla's recipes), two kinds of omelets and breakfast meats arrives on china and crystal in the formal dining room. Double doors open to a French country, catering-size kitchen where guests love to nibble on fresh cookies or sip tea or wine with Karla and Everton. Five upstairs queen-bed guest rooms offer modest square footage; however, Karla's clutter-free decorating and sumptuous fabrics makes the rooms feel large. All have private rain-shower baths, free Wi-Fi and electronic devices docking stations (not all have TVs). Double occupancy rates from $125 to $175 (Woodstock's "Groundhog Day" celebration and holiday packages, from $200). Karla and Everton practice personalized guest service (no online reservations). They talk with guests to learn food preferences and travel plans, give guidance on area attractions and driving directions, offer rides from the Woodstock train station, and greet everyone on the wraparound porch.
