Midwest Living Review

Robert Loerzel
When in Springfield, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Dana-Thomas House is a must-see for architecture buffs.

The Dana-Thomas House features more original Frank Lloyd Wright furnishings and decor than just about any other home the famous Prairie-style architect designed. Historic tours begin with a short film, followed by a guided walk through the property. Expect to spend at least an hour admiring all the beautiful stained glass, detailed ceilings and furniture, and listening to entertaining stories about the home and the families who’ve resided within. Guides paint a vivid picture of Springfield’s societal elite who mixed and mingled here in the early 1900s.

Visitors can pick up Wright-related souvenirs in the Sumac Shop in the carriage house. Tours take place Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Photographs are allowed outside the home, but are forbidden indoors. No admission is charged, although a donation of $10 per adult is suggested.
