Midwest Living Review
For 20 years, Debra Phillips, owner of Scentimental Gardens in Geneva (35 miles west of the Loop), has blurred the lines between indoors and out, past and present. The result: a blending of classics and fun she calls a "collected look." Throughout the shop, set in a restored 1905 Queen Anne home, French and American antiques tastefully mix with garden decor, salvaged architectural pieces, plants and artwork. Each room conveys a particular theme. An Art Nouveau chandelier shaped like a morning glory vine ($2,200) sprouts from the sitting room ceiling, covered with faux grass. Chubby concrete frogs, turtles and droopy-capped mushrooms ($6 and up) compose a whimsical pond-scene centerpiece atop the dining room's carved table. In the art glass entryway, repurposed pairs of early-20th-century glove molds have become welcoming hands reaching out as coat hooks ($250).
