Midwest Living Review
Surrounded by cornfields and with a small lake out the back door, this new inn and its two guest suites feel like a true escape. In-room fireplaces, private entrances and two-person whirlpools complete the cocoon. Owners Denny and Jan Reed dreamed and planned for 10 years before they built the Arts and Crafts-style ranch and planted gardens around it.An expert woodworker, Denny crafted touches such as oak wainscoting and an enviable array of kitchen cabinetry. He's also the chef, so he equipped the kitchen with an eye toward preparing lavish breakfasts (stuffed Fresh toast and eggs Florentine were on the menu the morning we visited). Breakfasts are included in stays. Dinners require advance reservations. A telescope for spotting birds, deer and other wildlife points from kitchen windows toward the pond and fields beyond. Guests can fish from the dock along the lake, or Denny is happy to take guests out in his boat for fishing or just a ride around the lake. From $169.
