Midwest Living Review

Shoppers experience antiques like never before at this clean, quirky, quality antiques store.

When you enter, your first thought might be to wonder whether this is really an antiques shop. The store in downtown Mount Carroll is everything antiquers wish for--well-organized with treasures carefully displayed in a big, bright, open space with raised, ivory pressed-tin ceilings. Not musty, not cluttered. The shop is part antiques shop, part tearoom, part Victorian library, and part vintage-clothing store. The clothing room includes bolts of reasonably priced vintage fabrics, clothes categorized by country and gender, and lots of hats. The tearoom is glorious and cozy. The owner hosts high-tea parties there for groups of six or more ($25 per person). The couple also owns a nearby shop called Riverview Antiques, where they restore classic cars. It is clear the owners love what they do and want everyone who visits to have fun, too. When we arrived on a Friday night, the shop was closed, but that didn't keep them from welcoming us in and allowing us to browse to our hearts' content. Officially, the shop is only open Friday through Sunday afternoons, but chances are that they'd invite you in whenever you stop.
