Midwest Living Review
Lagomarcino's has been a downtown Moline institution since 1918, and rightly so. This soda fountain/candy store doesn't look like it has changed one bit since opening its doors on First Street more than nine decades ago. The original polished wood booths, complete with marble table tops, remain, as does the high tin ceiling, white tile floor and decorative Tiffany-style lamps. While you can grab a sandwich or a salad here, the draw is ice cream and candy. The soda fountain creations are traditional -- sundaes, shakes, malts, banana splits, ice cream sodas served up in clear glass dishes -- and the prices reasonable. You won't spend more than $4.95 for most options. If the ice cream doesn't get you, the homemade candy will. Chocolate-covered toffee and turtles are customer favorites, but we recommend sticking with ice cream. In such a fabulously preserved soda shop, forgoing a thick chocolate malt or three-scoop banana royale sundae would be a sin.
