Purchased Lives: The American Slave Trade from 1808 to 1865

Illinois Holocaust Museum, Skokie, IL, February 10 - August 25, 2019

Purchased Lives speaks to the experiences of the millions of enslaved men, women and children who found themselves at the mercy of the domestic slave trade. The exhibition reveals how families and communities shattered by the trade worked against the odds to reconnect in the decades following the Civil War. Exhibition by The Historic New Orleans Collection.

Memory Unearthed: The Lodz Ghetto Photographs of Henryk Ross

Illinois Holocaust Museum, Skokie, IL, September 22, 2019 - January 12, 2020

Thousands of photo negatives, buried and hidden, reveal the despair of the Lodz Ghetto. Memory Unearthed offers a rare glimpse of life inside the ghetto from 1940 to 1944, through the lens of Polish Jewish photojournalist Henryk Ross. This exhibit presents more than 300 of Ross’s secret photographs, covertly buried under the ghetto and rediscovered after liberation. Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
