Midwest Living Review
Bring an appetite, along with your thirst, to Hedman Vineyards. Its Swedish roots strongly influence both cuisine and decor at this Shawnee Hills Wine Trail destination 16 miles south of Carbondale near Bald Knob Road east of Route 127. The Peach Barn Cafe serves extensive cheese trays with olives, pickles and salami for nibbling with wines such as full-bodied red Chambourcin or Villard Blanc. More food options include meatballs with lingonberries, barbecue-marinated salmon and pecan-crusted chicken salad. The vineyard also hosts monthly four-course event dinners, usually tied to holidays such as Valentine's Day or Father's Day. Round out a meal with their new peach dessert wine and spend the night at the vineyard's B&B rooms. The Swedish touches and historic charm of this farm set it apart from the trail's newer wineries.
