Midwest Living Review

Though it's named for an invisible rabbit, this classy, historic inn exudes welcoming warmth in ways that are easily apparent.

You might think this historic former home is named for its owner, Beth Harvey. But while the 6,000-square-foot brick building bears her touch throughout, she says its moniker is a reference to her favorite film, 1950's "Harvey," starring Jimmy Stewart as the purported best friend of an invisible 6-foot-tall rabbit. And indeed, bunny decor is tastefully scattered around the inn's three stories. Harvey strives to convey the movie's message of kindness, sharing her breathtaking breakfast recipes with guests and on her website and leaving homemade cookies out each night. The house is furnished with family heirlooms and pieces she acquired in her former life as a traveling executive, and its five suites are eclectically and appealingly decorated. Each room has a large bathroom and amenities such as a coffeemaker and flat-screen TV. Four rooms have a fireplace, and three of those also have a Jacuzzi. Wi-Fi and garage parking are free, and guests can make appointments for an in-room visit from a massage therapist. Rates start around $210 during high season and $165 the rest of the year. Gourmet breakfast is served until noon and might include an egg casserole, billowy French toast, wonderful sweet breads, fragrant coffee, fresh fruit and juice, all served on an eclectic mix of stoneware and fine china.
