Rain or shine, your family will have plenty of fun at Grizzly Jack's near Starved Rock State Park.

Grizzly Jack's is located on 60 acres of woods, but if the weather's less than ideal, you'll have enough to keep you busy inside. There's nowhere to swim in Starved Rock State Park (almost across the road), so if you and your family want to swim after hiking the park, Grizzly Jack's is a good option. Kids love tearing around the 24,000-square-foot Grand Bear Falls indoor water park, caroming down the various slides, splashing in the wave pool and floating the lazy river. For the grown-ups, there are plenty of deck chairs to recline in and a snack bar with picnic tables right next to the water area. This big resort complex also houses the Enchanted Forest indoor amusement park, 36,000 square feet of full-size rides and games. It's loud and dark inside the Enchanted Forest, and eating at the restaurant feels exactly like you'd expect when dining at a sports bar beside an indoor roller coaster and carousel. The property also offers mini golf, an arcade, story time and craft time. Admission to the water park and amusement park are free for overnight guests. Several options for casual dining are sprinkled throughout the resort (pizza, burgers, breakfast buffet, sandwiches, snacks). The lodge's 92 guest suites have different configurations available. All suites have cable TV, microwave, mini fridge and free Wi-Fi. If your family needs a bit more room to spread out, the two-story villas and three-story cabins feature multiple bedrooms, bathrooms and a full kitchen. When we stayed in one of the large cabins, we found the structure and furniture (which is heavy on the log theme) inviting, but some of the details were lacking. The hair dryer didn't work, and there was a streamer of toilet paper dangling from the chandelier in the main room. Wi-Fi works only in the main lodge, leaving all the guests in the cabins/villas without this now-common amenity. Suites from $225; villas from $315; cabins from $519.
