Midwest Living Review

Karen Sorensen
Pasta in every shape, flavor, color and design is at your fingertips at this downtown Galena shop, as well as interesting varieties of sauces that may make it tough to go back to Ragu.

Translated from Italian the name of this store is "perfect pasta," but what it really is is a one-stop-shop for just about every type of pasta you can imagine. What grabs you first is the novelty pasta in every shape imaginable: dog bones, college team logos, pink bows, martini glasses, baseball mitts. While it might be a little pricey at $7.99 for 14 ounces, it's not meant for Monday night dinner, and you know it's also one of those things that people will talk about. Beyond the first layer of frivolity, however, is what serious pasta lovers will be drawn to: white pasta imported from Naples; flavored pasta made with garlic, spinach, roasted bell pepper, pumpkin, leeks and a dozen other vegetables and spices so you need do nothing other than toss it with olive oil; colored pastas (apple green, bright pink, black); and French and German variations on the traditional. And, of course, there are sauces, too: pesto, black truffle, hot pepper tomato, artichoke, capers, and on and on. You'll drop anywhere from $9.99 to $16.99, but that's what you'd spend in a restaurant, right?
