Midwest Living Review
If you book a room at The Irish Cottage expecting an authentic Irish hotel, you'll be disappointed. But if you're a fan of high-end chain hotels -- predictable but reliable -- you'll be just fine. The hotel boasts 75 guest rooms, starting at $99 for a standard room. Our spacious queen suite (from $129) offered few surprises: two queen-size beds, a sitting area, and the standard microwave, refrigerator and TV. Prints by an Irish watercolor artist adorned the walls, and screened windows opened to a beautiful view of Galena farmland. The restaurant, Frank O'Dowd's, stands on its own as a classic Irish-style pub. Warm, dark wood decor, Irish ditties on the sound system and plenty of beers on tap (including, of course, Guinness) provide more than enough reasons to justify popping in. In the morning, complimentary breakfast includes one of three entrees off the menu plus access to an impressive cold buffet bar. Downstairs, a full Aveda spa and salon stands ready to pamper guests. You'll also find the usual pool, fitness center and gift shop.
