Midwest Living Review
When you're looking for a peaceful base for enjoying Galena, Illinois, one of the Midwest's most popular small-town getaways, you won't go wrong with the Goldmoor Inn. Set on a Mississippi River bluff six miles outside Galena, the Goldmoor offers countryside peace with excellent lodging and outstanding on-site cuisine. The inn features 12 suites in a main building styled (tastefully) like a fairy-tale castle/country estate. The turret suite and landscaped grounds make the inn a popular spot for weddings. The property also offers three cottages and two log cabins. All the lodgings are filled with luxurious furnishings and include breakfast, which you can have delivered to your room or suite if you wish. The spaces all feature comfy dining areas, some overlooking the Mississippi. The Goldmoor's restaurant serves some of the finest cuisine in the Galena area. A citrus-glazed duck dish we enjoyed one night at the chef's table stands among the best meals we've ever had, and the chef has been recognized in national competition for his breakfast creations. Cooking classes, which include dinner in the dining room, are available. A stay here represents a splurge for most travelers, since rooms run $275 and up on weekends, with prices higher during fall foliage season. But if you're seeking a memorable, pampered weekend, the Goldmoor delivers.
