Midwest Living Review

Kendra L. Williams
Learn from exhibits and demonstrations about agriculture, space, physics, health, and other science and industry related topics.

What's amazing to us is the number of exhibits included in general admission at this family-friendly museum designed to challenge your mind while making learning fun. Hands-on activities rule here, especially in the "Science Storms" and "You! The Experience," new permanent exhibits that carefully explain how weather works and how your body operates. You can create tornadoes, see how a tsunami builds and study lightning in "Science Storms," then age your face, see how your heart beats and run on a human-size hamster wheel in You! U-505, the German U-boat once on display outside, has moved inside and been refurbished. Patrons can take tours inside the sub for an additional $8, but the exhibit space itself offers a ton of information and background about the mission to capture this submarine and the American forces' commitment to that task. Hours and admission prices vary, so check the website for detailed information. And if you have a membership at your local science center, chances are that the MSI is part of its reciprocal agreement. Several free days are offered, especially in January and September. MSI is part of the CityPass program for reduced-price admission to six Chicago attractions.
