Midwest Living Review

The Saturday night singles scene gives way each Sunday morning to a delectable brunch spot in the Gold Coast neighborhood.

Tavern on Rush, in the heart of Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood north of the Magnificent Mile, may seem an unlikely place for brunch, but the extensive morning menu begs to differ. Locally grown spinach flavors the eggs Benedict florentine ($9.95). Stuffed French toast, crunchy on the egg-batter dipped outside, creamy with blueberries and mascarpone inside ($10.50), is a decadent choice. During happy hours and on Saturday nights, well-heeled singles pack this nine-year-old place in the heart of the Viagra Triangle -- named for the weekend infusion of young women and well-dressed elderly gentlemen. With lots of dark wood, velvet and brass, the place has the feel of an old-school, upper class club. Come for steak and martinis on a Saturday night, and you'll find some of the best people watching in the city. But Sunday brunch loses the competitive vibe.
