Midwest Living Review

With rooftop views of the sunset and Chicago's skyline, Market is one of the West Loop's hottest places to meet for drinks.

While Market's Asian-inspired restaurant is spacious and beautiful, it's the big-sky feel of the rooftop lounge that makes this a West Loop hot spot. Wicker chairs, tiered seating and heaters or fans make this place cozy, too. It's sublime to nurse a drink as the sun sets and lights twinkle across the city's skyline. Aside from the the standard margaritas and mojitos, the mixed-drink lineup is pretty original. We tried the Pacific Sunset, a mix of Bacardi Dragon Berry and Razz, pineapple juice, orange juice, sweet and sour mix, and grenadine. They don't stint on the alcohol or overload with ice. If you want to dine, head downstairs to the restaurant and sports bar, beer garden or sidewalk cafe. Market tries to lure a broad base of customers, and you'll see several sports-themed items on the menus. The food is good, served in generous portions, but nothing too unusual in its lineup of pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and salads. A notable exception is an entree of Market Ribs for $24. They're sweet, tender and lean, served with a spicy, pepper-spiked side of Peruvian corn. The most creative options can be found among the appetizers. We recommend the five large Mac and Cheese Muffins, baked with smoked Gouda, sharp cheddar, and macaroni and served with a smoky ranch-like dipping sauce. You'll get plenty to share, and at $8, they're the same price of a rooftop drink. The West Loop gets trendier all the time, with lots of new restaurants and bars opening up. Oprah's Harpo Studio is only a few blocks away. As a result, it's easy to find a cab when you're ready to leave, the Eisenhower and Dan Ryan expressways are easy to get to, and it's an easy bus ride (or a long walk) down Randolph.
