Midwest Living Review
Can you ever really go wrong with a freshly made donut? We don’t think so. This new River North shop sells about a dozen varieties of traditional and creative donuts ($2 to $3 apiece), as well as coffee and orange juice. That’s it. And, you’ll need to take your order to-go because there’s no seating.
We tasted the coconut cream, maple-glazed pineapple and bacon, butterscotch praline and peanut butter cup donuts, along with a chocolate hazelnut Long John and a cup of robust La Colombe coffee ($3). The best of our batch? The butterscotch praline with its subtle creamy filling; the peanut butter cup, a great combo of chocolate and peanut butter flavors; and the coconut cream with crispy coconut on the outside and a creamy swirled topping. The only pastry we didn’t care for was the maple-glazed pineapple and bacon. Other customers rave about it, but the flavor blend didn’t appeal to us.
Check the website for hours and daily varieties, and if you’re craving a particular flavor, plan to arrive early. Once a variety sells out, it’s gone for the day. You can also preorder donuts for next-day pickup (one dozen minimum).
