Midwest Living Review

This new B&B feels overpriced for the quality of the experience; service is all thumbs.

We had high hopes for this three-story graystone in the heart of Lincoln Park. Its website is stunning. The beautiful structure has a prime location steps away from trendy and upscale shopping, some of Chicago's finest homes and lakefront attractions. While Villa d'Citta has some nice amenities (king-size beds, an outdoor patio with a grill and hot tub, and guests may use the kitchen and raid the fridge), these are not enough to carry the B&B overall. Our visit was plagued by preventable difficulties from the start: unreturned phone calls; nonfunctional front gate and front doorbell; no instructions for the fireplace or DirecTV system in our room; burned out light bulbs; Wi-Fi that didn't make it to our third-floor room. The B&B offers parking for $25/night in the garage, but we didn't know this until after we'd spent a half hour hunting for a spot on the street (and then the garage door wouldn't close). Our room did not have a private bath, which is no deal-breaker, but we couldn't find any light switches to navigate down the stairs during the night. The accommodations themselves don't quite deliver either. Furnishings feel "stylish" without quality. The exception is the kitchen, which is designed to impress. You might think you're in for a gourmet breakfast with such a kitchen, but in truth, the Continental breakfast is just a step above any chain hotel's. In addition, the dining room table served as the manager's desk during our stay, making it awkward to use for any meal. We paid $250 for our room; rates from $179.
