Midwest Living Review

Kate Silver
Whimsical and quirky, Hotel Lincoln shares the fun, residential side of Chicago, complete with park views, lake access and downtown accessibility.

Finally, a hotel that gives visitors a glimpse of the Chicago that residents so cherish—abundant green spaces, expansive lake views, endless restaurants and shopping, all within a quick ride to the hustle and bustle of downtown. Located across from Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan, Hotel Lincoln, which opened in March 2012, is making a vibrant and whimsical splash on the hospitality scene. The 184-room hotel (rates range from $139-$219 and all rooms are dog-friendly) is part of the 30-strong Joie de Vivre chain and its first property to open east of the Mississippi.

As soon as you walk in, you can't help but notice the hotel's quirky personality. "Hotel Lincoln" shines in lights behind the front desk, where an effervescent staff in 1950s-style rockabilly dress (guys in bow ties, girls in polka dots wearing nerdy glass frames with no lenses) quickly welcome you. Art is in abundance (it was created by students at two Chicago area nonprofits), and playful accents abound (houndstooth carpeting, bright blue globes, furniture made of dresser drawers). On the hotel's 12 floors, each bright, cozy room imparts a distinct Americana style and gives a sense that you're staying with artsy friends in the city rather than bland big-city hotel.
