Midwest Living Review

A $50 million renovation and exceptional service make the Fairmont one of the city's classiest stays, and allergen-free guest rooms offer a bonus to travelers who just want to breathe easy.

We’re not sure how the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park does it, but the air in the new allergen-free Pure guest rooms reminds us more of a North Woods forest than a high-rise hotel.

That’s a welcome detail for springtime allergy sufferers looking for a good night’s sleep. Guests seeking relief in the Pure rooms share their triggers with the hotel staff before they arrive (even food allergies, so the hotel has a record of that for the on-site restaurant, Aria). An air purifier in each Pure guest room runs constantly, and we couldn’t detect a hint of air fresheners or scented cleaning products anywhere throughout the property, which recently spent $50 million renovating its lobby and 687 rooms.

In every other way, our guest room had the amenities you’d expect from any hotel at this price point: two double beds with soft mattresses and high-quality sheets, a 42-inch flat-screen TV, a glass-walled shower lined with ceramic tiles, a work desk. Rates start at $199. A good night’s sleep for people not used to getting it during hayfever season is worth even more.
