Wisconsin Lodges

Spend a night at one of these rustic, wilderness cabins in northern Wisconsin.
By Barbara Humeston, Contributing Editor, Midwest Living

Staying at Wolf River Lodge is a special treat! The old hemlock log lodge beside the Wolf River creates a sense of nostalgia and serenity (60 miles northwest of Green Bay).

But I think you'll also like this collection of a half dozen other northern Wisconsin lodgings.

In the Eagle River/Minocqua area of north-central Wisconsin (150 miles northwest of Green Bay): Black Bear Lodge--A 70-year-old laid-back resort with comfortable log cabins, as well as plush condo-style units, curving across a wooded bluff above Little St. Germain Lake (800/563-4340). Dillman's Bay Resort--Tracing the shore of picture-pretty Sand Lake, a compact 66-year-old resort with pine-paneled cabins, plus motel-style rooms and suites farther from the lake (715/588-3143). Sandy Point Resort -- A little retreat along the forested shore of Squaw Lake, including tidy cabins and cottages with screened porches (888/588-3233). Wilson's Shishebogama Shores Resort--On a pine-shaded hill, a small lakeside resort with green cabins that have a dollhouse quality (715/356-5974).

In the Hayward area of northwestern Wisconsin (150 miles northeast of the Twin Cities): Grand Pines Resort -- On the short channel between Big Round and Little Round lakes, with a premium on comfort and niceties in cabins and cottages (715/462-3564). Ross' Teal Lake Lodge--Deep in Chequamegon National Forest, a nostalgic century-old resort with a varied selection of cabins and cottages (715/462-3631).
