Mushing and Snowshoeing in Wisconsin

Mushing and Snowshoeing in Wisconsin

In northeast Wisconsin's Wolf River country, fat flakes of snow billow down from the sky like confetti on a parade. After other resorts slip into hibernation, Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort near the town of White Lake (70 miles northwest of Green Bay) warms up for winter with weekend workshops, where guests try activities such as snowshoeing, dogsledding and cross-country skiing.

The resort includes a learning center, three-story lodge, eight inn room, nine cedar-framed cabins and more.

Easygoing weekends start with Friday evening snowshoe walks through piney woods. You carry a torch on a mile-long path to a garage-size tent. Mugs of hot chocolate and a campfire await. The next morning, along 11 miles of groomed trails that surround the inn, instructors teach cross-country skiing techniques, from the safest way to fall and get back on your skis to tricky turns and fancy gliding patterns.

Bear Paw offers mushing to prearranged groups and special events like the Women's Winter Wellness weekend. Check out the gear and gift shop, great restaurant, snowshoe walks, cross country ski trails and XC ski lessons and rentals. Please visit the Web site for more information.
