Mario's International Spa and Hotel
Aurora, Ohio
This white frame spa and hotel complex southeast of Cleveland recalls the big farmstead it once was part of, tucked away in a suburb that reminds you of New England.
In 1842, what's now Mario's started out as a stagecoach inn. It was a private residence in 1979 when internationally known hairstylist Mario Liuzzo and his wife, Joanne, opened a day spa here, followed by their European-style hotel addition and restaurant.
Most guests enter the hotel through the cozy Cabin Restaurant. The informal eatery specializes in northern Italian pasta and health-conscious spa cuisine. The adjoining Waterford room caters to formal dining.
Mario's 14 spacious guest rooms tastefully combine Victorian and traditional furnishings and decor.
If you choose a spa package, you can pamper yourself even more. Indulge in a massage, have your hair styled, choose from six types of facials, or get coaching by a staff fitness trainer.
