Grand View Lodge Gull Lake, Minn.
Since 1919, this lodge has been a fixture along Gull Lake, biggest and busiest of the Brainerd area's lakes northwest of the Twin Cities.
This first-class retreat in Nisswa has built a fine reputation for its carefully maintained cabins, restaurant in a classic log lodge, manicured grounds, three golf courses and family activities.
Even with all that, the beach quickly becomes a favorite spot for all ages. Children laugh and squeal as they crawl through tunnels and slide and swing at the beach playground. You can watch the fun from a neighboring indoor pool or swim in the cool lake.
The gazebo snack bar is perfect for lunch. The lodge also hosts beachside dinners.
Flower-edged paths lead to the 65 refurbished cabins. Guests also can stay in 12 remodeled lodge rooms, or newer town houses beside The Pines golf course. Prices include breakfast and dinner, as well as extras such as the first-rate summer children's program and unlimited tennis.
Other facilities/activities: lawn games, canoes and kayaks (free), other boat rentals.
