Michigan Autumn Cider Tours
You'll find a comprehensive listing of the mills on Travel Michigan's website (below). Here's a sampling:
Franklin Cider Mill in Franklin (20 miles north of Detroit) follows the same traditional cider-making process used since the five-story wood-frame mill opened in 1837. Tour the mill and feast on candied apples, fresh donuts and, of course, cider.
Every autumn weekend is a festival at Bowens 1864 Grist & Cider Mill Historical Park in Middleville (20 miles southeast of Grand Rapids). Festival themes vary throughout September and October, from First Cider Pressing of the Season to Historic Bowens Mills Civil War Days. You can watch cider-making demonstrations, listen to live old-time music and take a horse-drawn hayride. Be sure to try one of the mill's apple dumplings topped with ice cream.
Bicyclists can two-wheel through the harvest on their choice of 25-, 50-, 75- or 100-mile tours during the Apple Cider Annual Century Ride. More than 7,000 riders take part in the annual ride, which begins at Three Oaks in the state's far southwest corner (60 miles southwest of Kalamazoo).
