Iowa's Laura Ingalls Wilder Park and Museum

Laura was nine years old in 1876 when the Ingalls family lived in and managed the hotel in this northeast Iowa village.

Burr Oak, Iowa

The website chronicles the efforts in the 1970s of a group of concerned citizens to buy the old building (then a private residence) and renovate it into a museum and national historic site (90 miles northeast of Waterloo).

The site provides directions to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Park and Museum. You also can order online the book Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Iowa Story and the video Burr Oak Through Laura's Eyes.

Much of this website is devoted to more attractions and activities in Minnesota's Mississippi River bluff country, just north of Burr Oak. You'll find useful travel information about dining and lodging, and also learn where you can hike, canoe, kayak, bike and golf.
