Indy's White River Gardens

The garden honors the region's agricultural heritage with a silo-shaped rotunda entrance.

Indianapolis, Indiana

The website for this three-year-old garden includes a map of the grounds, a class schedule and a searchable plant database. You also can link to the zoo page.

The silo-shaped rotunda entrance contains a 360-degree mural of Heartland gardening. The 5,000-square-foot conservatory is reminiscent of a barn and the dining room is an elegant interpretation of a wooden corncrib.

Winding paths lead to sun, shade, ornamental and water gardens. The design garden contains 11 garden "rooms" that you can mine for ideas. If your kids tag along on the tour, you can reward them with a stop at the neighboring Indianapolis Zoo.
