Indiana's New Harmony Inn
New Harmony, Indiana
Built 30 years ago, this red brick inn blends with the architecture and spirit of New Harmony (28 miles northwest of Evansville). In 1814, a utopian society founded the community.
A peaceful yard enclosed by a picket fence surrounds the inn, which was designed to resemble communal buildings that New Harmony's German Lutheran settlers built.
Simple Shaker furnishings decorate many of the 90 guest rooms. Some feature sleeping lofts, while others have patios or balconies overlooking a pond.
At the inn's Red Geranium restaurant, the fare ranges from sauted pecan-breaded chicken to Shaker lemon pie.
