Satisfy your sweet tooth this National Doughnut Day with a Midwest creation—perhas a doughnut made with beer, or doughnuts paired with bacon? Here are a few mouthwatering stops:
Sleepy V’s | Minneapolis, MN
This shop specializes in baby-sized doughnuts in flavors like raspberry choco and crunch cone. The drinks are just as pretty as the pastries—try the mini donut latte or the M.O., a matcha oak milk latte with vanilla.
Butler County Donut Trail | Ohio
This trail stops at 12 doughnut shops, including Martin's Donuts, Kelly’s Bakery, Oxford Doughnut Shoppe and Jupiter’s Coffee and Donuts. Participants can download passports that can be stamped at each shop. If you collect all the stamps, you get a free t-shirt. The Donut Trail is self-guided and can be completed at your own pace (whew!).
Hurts Donut Co | West Des Moines, IA
They're known for their cereal-topped creations and other unusual varieties such as Star Wars-themed doughnuts. Hurts will be donating some of their proceeds to veterans this National Doughnut Day.
Glam Doll Donuts | MN
Snack on award-winning doughnuts made from scratch. Glam Doll now has two locations in Minneapolis; their newest store in northeast Minneapolis features beer-and-doughnut pairings, a huge pink couch and rotating art gallery. According to owner Arwyn Birch, National Doughnut Day is their busiest day of the year, with a line stretching down the block from open to close.
The Doughnut Hole | Lincoln, NE
Doughnuts with pink and yellow sprinkles or shades of neon frosting line the shelves in this shop. The Doughnut Hole is owned by two brothers and former models who were inspired by New York City bakeries and came back to the Midwest to start their own.
Baker Boy | Dickinson, ND
Baker Boy produces a doughnut called the Magic Ring—with filling inside a ring doughnut, giving you tastes of raspberry, Bavarian cream and other flavors in every bite. Find them (and other Baker Boy products) at Dan's Supermarket locations in Bismarck-Mandan, North Dakota, and some County Markets in Illinois.
Varsity Donut | Manhattan, KS
Maple bacon doughnuts and cookie monster doughnuts are crowd favorites at this popular Aggieville shop.
Imaginative minds come up with ideas such as doughnuts based off Games of Thrones, with flavors like Red Wedding (a red velvet doughnut) and Arya’s Strawberry Secret (a strawberry-filled doughnut with vanilla frosting).
The Doughnut Vault | Chicago
The Doughnut Vault makes small batches of doughnuts every day, meaning that the store is only open as long as the doughnuts last. Special flavors might include salted caramel old-fashioned or Dulce de Leche cake.
