Warming Trend French Onion Soup

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2  pounds onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4  cup butter or margarine
  • 2  10-1/2-ounce cans condensed beef broth
  • 2-1/2  cups water
  • 1  teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 6  slices French bread
  •   Shredded Swiss cheese
  •   Dash pepper

Directions

1. In a saucepan, cook onions in butter for 20 minutes. Stir in broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper. Bring to boiling.

2. Place French bread on a baking sheet. Broil 3 to 4 inches from the heat for 1 to 2 minutes per side or until toasted. Sprinkle with cheese. Broil for 1 minute more.

3. Top each serving with a slice of cheese-topped toast. Makes 6 side-dish servings.
