Ingredients

  • 1 cup half-and-half or light cream
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 3.52 - ounce bars Swiss dark chocolate with honey and almond nougat or 10 1/2 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons amaretto, hazelnut liqueur, brandy, apricot brandy or 3 tablespoons half-and-half and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Dippers: large marshmallows; graham cracker snack sticks; honey or cinnamon graham cracker squares, halved; biscotti cookies; angel-food cake or pound cake cubes; brownie squares; dried apricots and/or assorted fresh fruit dippers (such as whole strawberries, orange or tangerine segments, 1-inch banana chunks, peeled pear wedges, pineapple chunks and/or apple wedges)

Directions

  1. In a heavy small saucepan, combine the 1 cup half-and-half and honey. Bring mixture to a simmer, stirring often, over medium heat; reduce heat to low. Add chocolate and whisk until mixture is smooth and chocolate is melted. Remove from heat. Whisk in the amaretto.
  2. Transfer chocolate mixture to a fondue pot and keep warm over a fondue burner; stir occasionally. (Or use a 1- or 1 1/2-quart slow cooker and keep warm for up to 2 hours on low-heat setting.)
  3. Serve fondue with desired dippers. Spear a dipper with a fondue fork or wooden skewer; dip into chocolate mixture, swirling to coat. (If the fondue mixture thickens, stir in a little additional half-and-half to thin as needed.)
