You'll be amazed what a quick simmer with fresh ginger and scallions will do for boxed chicken broth. Throw in frozen pot stickers (Chinese dumplings), edamame and red cabbage for a nutritious dinner that's ready in 30 minutes.

  • 4 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces, white and green parts separated
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 32 - ounce carton reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 -2 tablespoons Asian chili-garlic sauce
  • 2 9 1/2 - ounce packages frozen pot stickers (such as chicken, pork, and/or shrimp)
  • 1/2 cup frozen sweet soybeans (edamame)
  • 2 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons white and/or black sesame seeds,* toasted

  1. In a Dutch oven, cook white parts of green onions, the ginger and garlic in hot oil over medium heat for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add broth, the water and chili-garlic sauce. Bring to boiling. Add pot stickers and edamame. Return to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until pot stickers are cooked through. Add cabbage; cook 1 minute more. Served topped with green onion tops, sesame seeds and a drizzle of sesame oil.

  • *Shopping Tip Chili-garlic sauce (sambal oelek) is widely available. Look for black sesame seeds at specialty spice stores.
