Irish Soda Bread
Cool: 10 mins
Bake: 30 mins to 35 mins at 350°F
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole-wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup golden raisins
- 1 3/4 cups milk
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flours, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Stir in raisins. Make well in dry ingredients.
2. Add the milk; stir till moistened.
3. Turn into a greased 9x1 1/2-inch round baking pan. Bake in a 350 degrees F oven for 30 to 35 minutes or till the top is browned. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from the pan and cool thoroughly.
4. Wrap bread in foil or clear plastic wrap, and store overnight before serving.








I was disappointed in the lack of flavor of the bread. I added 2 T. extra brown sugar when I made it. It is a pretty bread. I think I will make a bread pudding out of it.
