Ingredients

  • 4 cups regular rolled oats
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts, almonds or pecans
  • 1/2 cup whole-bran cereal
  • 1/4 cup sesame seed
  • 1 cup snipped, dried cherries, dried cranberries, and/or dried blueberries
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or maple-flavored syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

1. In a large mixing bowl, toss together the rolled oats, coconut, nuts, dried cherries or berries, whole-bran cereal, and sesame seed. Stir together the cooking oil, maple syrup, and salt.

2. Drizzle the maple mixture over oat mixture and toss to coat. Spread the granola mixture in an even layer in a greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan.

3. Bake the granola mixture in a 325 degree F oven for about 30 to 35 minutes or until the mixture is lightly browned, stirring gently after 20 minutes.

4. Remove the granola from the oven and immediately turn out onto a large piece of foil. Let the granola stand at room temperature to cool. Makes about 9 cups (18 servings).

  • Make Ahead Tip: Prepare granola as directed. Store the mixture in tightly covered jars or plastic bags at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. For longer storage, seal the granola in freezer bags; label and freeze.
