“At Mendoza, you don’t just open a bottle of wine—you open a conversation.” Owner Walter Pecite lives his slogan with pride, having named his wine bar-live music venue after the region of Argentina where his family has owned and operated wineries since 1870.
With more than 100 bottles in stock (many imported from Walter's family collection), customers are sure to find the perfect red or white to wet their whistles. Arranged or build-your-own flights are a good way to sample the wares ($14 to $17) for visitors in the mood to taste test different vintages or compare grapes from different regions. A wide selection of craft beers is also available. Walter often serves as an on-site sommelier, but any of the servers can ably guide guests through making selections. On Thursday nights, live-music performances (usually jazz or blues) draw crowds and create an appropriate soundtrack for tasting. Tapas and small plates round out the experience.
Mendoza is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; tasting hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
