You know you’re going to have a good time at a restaurant featuring a fiberglass moose sprawled across its delivery vehicles, and the silly vibe is contagious enough that you might even spot a few adult customers sporting crowns of moose antlers inside. (We think six-packs of house-brewed sodas and Rustic Red amber ale make better souvenirs.)
Moosejaw patrons are welcome to observe Jamie Baertsch, Wisconsin’s only female brewmaster, in action on the sunny third floor. Ten- and six-beer flights are available for sampling in addition to pints, pitchers and growlers. Rustic Red proves the most popular choice, but beer fans can also try golden lager, honey ale, harvest wheat, cherry ale and other quaffs on for size. Family-friendly, Moosejaw keeps young customers happy with their own menu and a bowling alley-arcade in the basement.
Grab a booth in the bar area or sit at one of the rustic wood tables to order off a menu of thin-crust pizzas (we liked the 10-inch BBQ version for $10.99), big burgers ($11 to $12) and tender sweet-smoky ribs (half rack, $17.99). The beer bread makes a delicious bread pudding dessert ($6.59), served warm with cinnamon caramel sauce and ice cream, although we prefer it straight up with honey butter as an appetizer ($5.99).
