Amish Country farmland provides a peaceful backdrop for the Barn Inn, an 11-room B&B housed in a charmingly refurbished barn. Rooms ($119 to $209) feature antique furniture and homespun touches like velvet pillows and wooden duck decoys to strike a fair balance between country and comfortable. All accommodations feature free Wi-Fi, an iPad/iPod docking station, soft robes, toiletries, bottled water and a nightlight; the larger rooms add gas fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs to the mix. From the hallway mini kitchen, guests help themselves to coffee, tea and microwave popcorn, as well as books and movies from a small library. Interior and exterior room entrances allow easy access to the parking area and a backyard where the resident llama and goat roam.
The attractive lobby holds seating areas, a flat-screen TV and an ample supply of Amish Country tourism information. A separate three-bedroom farmhouse adjacent to the inn is also available to rent (from $159 a night for two people). Children under 12 are permitted for stays in the farmhouse, but not at the inn.
Breakfast is served in the lobby, but only between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Arrive early, as the scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausages and other items run low fast and aren’t always replenished promptly.
