Mounted on the front porch, the funky 1940s water skis at Maple Park Antiques make customers curious to see what else they might find within this pleasant, old home just a block off Lake Geneva's main drag.
Owner Bob Stevens is formerly from LeClaire, Iowa, where he ran Bob's Antiques before "retiring" to Lake Geneva in 2012 and opening his new store shortly after. The old-timey water skis have been a main draw. Stevens amassed quite a collection of these things and puts them to use in the shop as shelving and wall decor. Occasionally, he even sells some.
The rest of the inventory is attractively displayed throughout seven rooms on the main level. Old musical instruments, books, lamps, model ships, vintage glassware, a toy log cabin and a beautiful stained-glass window piece all coexist happily. There's a wealth of quality primitive and fine furniture pieces dating back to 1950 and beyond; the oldest item in his store is a blue kitchen cabinet from 1800. Just-for-kicks items include a pirate's wooden peg leg and a 1930s-era steam closet meant to be worn as a strap-on sauna—it fits over your body while allowing your head to poke out the top.
