You'll find good wine, beautiful views, live music on weekends and a splash of history at this sprawling spot near the Katy Trail.
A steel-drum band sets the tone for an afternoon of wine tasting and drinking at Mount Pleasant Estates (Mount Pleasant Winery is in Branson). Cyclists from the nearby Katy Trail State Park sit side-by-side with throngs from bus tours on an expansive brick patio overlooking the beautiful, rolling Missouri River Valley. The convivial group sips popular Vignoles and dines on picnic or gourmet fare from the on-site Appellation Cafe.
Vestiges of the past dot the property: Chimneys appear to grow from a lawn area above the original cellars dating back to 1881. Signs explain the history of charming mustard-yellow buildings such as the water tower. Today, they grow 12 varieties of grapes on 78 acres. Taste some of the award-winning wines in the new 4,000-square-foot tasting room-shop or get a free tour that includes a peek at the history and popular vintages. Mount Pleasant is definitely worth a stop if you want to relax with a good glass of wine and a pretty view.
