Diners craving an authentic Italian experience should put Fiamico on their radar. This family-owned restaurant delivers delicious meals in a comfortable dining room crafted of natural stone and wood reclaimed from late-1800s barns.
Gino Leo and his wife, Jody Meyer, run the inviting eatery, and papa Eugeneo Leo mans the kitchen. The lengthy menu of family recipes lists the names of dishes in Italian, providing tempting descriptions in English. Thirteen pasta entrees ($12 to $15) include Roman spaghetti carbonara and a first-class lasagna. There are also plenty of savory beef, veal, chicken and fish entrees (running $15 to $24). Thirsty? Fiamico boasts an impressive craft beer selection and a range of imported Italian wines at $8 a glass.
The best appetizer is the pan-seared scallops with pencil-thin asparagus and wild arugula salad drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar ($12.95), but the thin-crust wood-fired pizzas are the main attraction. “Pizziola-papa” Eugeneo stretches the homemade dough by hand, expertly spins it on his fingertips, tops it with mostly imported Italian ingredients (San Marzano tomatoes and Fior di Latte mozzarella), and bakes it until bubbly and golden. Of the nine pizza choices, the Funghi e Salsiccia with mushrooms and sausage ($12.95) is a standout. And you can’t go wrong with the simply yummy Margherita ($10.95).
