Coppes Commons offers one-stop shopping for a whole inventory of Amish-made products. Visitors can even watch many items being made on-site in the converted 1874 Coppes Kitchen Cabinet Factory—a company famous for handcrafted Hoosier cabinets; the lazy Susan; and custom-built kitchens for the likes of Frank Sinatra, President John F. Kennedy and Oprah Winfrey.
Inside, Countryside Shoppes Showcase displays quilts, furniture, rugs, art, tools, bicycles and toys made by local Amish families. Staff will contact the Amish artisans and schedule appointments for interested buyers to visit their rural workshop/farming homesteads.
Plenty of food purveyors populate the expanding center. Plain and Fancy Gourmet Kettle cans applesauce and fruit pie fillings; visitors can taste global teas in The Tea Pot and More tearoom; and Rocket Science Ice Cream freezes hundreds of flavored ice creams instantly using frozen nitrogen. The Nappanee Bakery and Treat Shoppe uses Amish family recipes for breads, whoopee pies and sweets. Local Amish farmers tie up their horses and buggies while shopping the Culinary Mill Market and Deli, a grocer that sells bulk foods, seasonings, organic products and fresh deli meats. It’s easy to fill up a basket with dry mixes for cakes, cobblers, cookies, soups, gravies and lemonades.
