Enjoy a great night's sleep in this 1845 hotel, which needs more historic touches and increased guest services.
The current owners - and owners of Weston Brewing Company - acquired The Saint George Hotel early in 2012 and still have a ways to go with renovations. Our bed was terrific and the hotel's historic façade was highly appealing. But, during our visit, the property displayed little of the charm associated with a faithfully restored historic property. Some guest rooms lack twin nightstands, and more period art would also enhance the ambience of rooms and hallways. The bar area best echoed the hotel's past, with antique black-and-white photos on deep red walls and a weathered bank vault door, which opens onto a future private dining space. One jack-of-all trades handled most front-of-the house service, plus room and barista service. He was very pleasant and competent, but clearly overworked. Locally produced alcoholic beverages and pizza were available in the bar, as well as morning coffee and pastries. But future guests can also look forward to a full-service restaurant and menu created by a well-known local chef, occupying two rooms with exposed brick walls and tall windows that overlook Main Street. Hopefully, the new owners will make additional efforts to honor the hotel's historic roots, as they improve their level of service for guests.
