You can’t miss this bright yellow cafe with its profusion of summer flowers as you drive into Lake City. Because it has the look of a tea shop, it’s not a huge surprise that its chicken salad is a popular seller, along with cookies, sweets and homemade quick breads.
You can grab a seat in one of the three cozy dining areas, but we favor the front porch with pink fabric draped along the ceiling. If it’s busy, you can get your food to-go and head to the beach about three blocks away.
Those in the know time their visits for the popular Sunday brunches, with family-style servings of cheesy potato casserole and plenty of homemade rolls (adults $10, children 5-8 $5.99, under 5 free). Specials—such as shrimp fest in June—often change the menu slightly. Favorites include soups such as tomato bisque, banana apricot nut bread and airy coconut angel macaroons.
Good luck leaving without some kind of sweet. Shelves of molasses or cherry-pecan cookies, pecan bars, snickerdoodles, and a rich mixed nut and chocolate tart tempt. Consider it a reward for a stroll along Lake City’s marina.
The cafe is open mid-April through late October.
