Rockmill Brewery is in the rolling countryside just outside Lancaster. The setting is peaceful and bucolic, with rustic barns and a farmhouse nestled into a wooded grove that features a pond and a swinging bridge over a small stream.
That pretty farmhouse now serves as Rockmill’s tasting room, open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. Certified organic Belgian-style beers are created in small batches on-site in the brewing barn. Taste the witbier, saison, dubbel, tripel and cask-aged tripel. Cork-topped pint bottles run from $13, a glass is $5 to $8, and a tasting flight costs $10.
The cozy ambience encourages leisurely lounging in front of large stone fireplaces, a modern yet rustic bar area and a charming patio. No food is served, but visitors are encouraged to bring picnics; Rockmill’s website even lists recommended cheese pairings from Columbus’ Katzinger’s Deli to simplify what-to-pack decisions. The quality of the beer coupled with the beautiful, serene atmosphere makes this a unique microbrewery experience.
