The White Lace Inn opened its doors in 1981 and soon became the go-to spot in Sturgeon Bay. Initially, it consisted of four bedrooms in a grand, old Victorian home. Through the years, owners Dennis and Bonnie Statz purchased three additional buildings adjacent to the inn and today offer guests 18 rooms and suites ($70-$225) from which to choose.

The rooms have amenities like queen- and king-size beds, gas fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. If you want to sit outside and read, or enjoy a cup of coffee al fresco, no problem. The main inn has a spacious front porch, plus there’s an enormous shared garden area, complete with a burbling pond, gazebo, Adirondack chairs and benches. 

Breakfast is set out each morning from 8-10:30 a.m. and consists of a cheesy egg bake or fruit-stuffed baked French toast entree, homemade muffins or bagels, and a Scandinavian fruit compote or fruit-topped rice pudding. Hot and cold beverages are always available, plus a small selection of candy, Oreos and homemade cookies (the latter are sometimes not replenished).

Everything in the homes is clean, neat and nicely decorated. Unfortunately, some of the rooms’ decor and furnishings are starting to show their age. While not really an issue now, it could become a problem if upgrades aren’t made in the not-too-distant future.
