Red Forest is one of those inns where you feel pampered yet completely at home. The attractive, 1907 redbrick home has four good-size rooms ($125-$130), each with its own private bath. The immaculately clean rooms feature queen beds, super-soft robes and Internet access. Though attractively outfitted with antiques, there's no fancy, intimidating feel. Innkeepers Kay and Alan Rodewald thoughtfully leave out bottled water for guests, plus fine chocolates created for Red Forest by famed Manitowoc chocolatier Beerntsen's.

Each evening, the Rodewalds hold a wine and cheese hour for guests. The couple is happy to make restaurant recommendations and assist with any activity planning. In the early morning, they set out coffee in the upstairs hallway, just outside all four rooms. When it's time for breakfast, you're in for a treat. The meal, served on nautical-theme china (an homage to Two Rivers' history) features items like fresh fruit salad, homemade muffins, quiche, ham and more.

Red Forest is wonderfully situated in a shady, quiet neighborhood close to Two Rivers' downtown, Lake Michigan beaches and two recreational trails: one stretching south to Manitowoc, and the other heading north to the picturesque Point Beach State Forest.
